A two –day debating event “Behes” Ghaziabad Round 2 was hosted by DPS R.N.Extension on 2 and 3 August, 2019. This was an event organized
for the British Council’s ISA award under the project “Between the covers” There were 239 debaters from 20 schools from Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad. The Principal of DPS RN Extension Mrs. Pallavi Upadhyaya welcomed the student delegates and wished them all success in the competition. There were two categories Cubs and Lions and each team comprised three students. Mr Salil Singh, the Head of Curriculum for Behes organization introduced the programme to the students and apprised them about the rules and regulations. He also arranged for the adjudicator training for the escort teachers so that they would be able to evaluate the debating skills of the students in a fair manner. On the first day each team took part in three debates. Many of the students were novices in the debating arena but surprised the adjudicators with their logical reasoning. The entire campus reverberated with the energy these young debaters exuberated. The second day the results were displayed and only 16 teams from cubs and 8 teams from the lions had qualified for the knock out rounds. Finally, only two teams from the cubs and two teams from the lion's category reached the finals. The mixed team from Bookmark –the library won the Champions Trophy. The students were from three different schools – Aarush Sharda from DPS Vasundhara, Kushagra Pandey from DPS Indirapuram and Krita Gupta from The Millennium School, Noida. The Lions Trophy was won by Omana Pisharoty, Aarushi Koul and Kanishk Srinivas-all from DPS, Noida. The day ended with a musical performance by the school orchestra and a two-piece performance by one of the organizers Mr. Adil Sami and the Western music faculty of the school Mr Siddharth Srinivasan.
